Maverick is forced to battle Sabretooth for Elena's life. 
 
Maverick, in an effort to protect Elena, was forced to defend himself found himself against Sabretooth in the sewers of Manhattan. When Maverick temporarily gained the upper hand, Elena used her psychic powers to enter the maniac's mind, where she found herself confronted by the tortured souls of his victims, including that of her mother. The resulting psionic backlash, severed Elena's link with Maverick, throwinghis powers out of control. Sabretooth was ultimatey defeated by Maverick, and Elena finally had her revenge. The cost, though, was immense, for Elena had slipped into a coma.
